Côte Rotie

The Côte-Rôtie vineyard is one of the oldest in France and one of the most prestigious of the Côtes du Rhône . It extends on over 235 hectares on the right bank of the Rhone, south of Lyon on the municipalities of Saint-Cyr-le-Rhone, Ampuis and Tupin-Semons. The Côte-Rôtie appellation has the particularity of putting together a maximum of 20% white grapes (Viognier) with 80% red grape (Syrah).

In the XIX century these wines almost disappeared. Actually, the very steep slopes of both territories, made it difficult to grow vines. But it was exactly these typical growing conditions, which made it possible to produce great wines. The name Côte-Rôtie comes from the image of these slopes combine to the heat and the sun of a temperate continental climate, typical of Lyon. Côte-Rôtie wines have a strong aroma from Syrah and a lot of delicacy from Viognier. They are high quality wines, colorful and rich in tannins. With age, these wines gaining an exceptional richness. The best vintages can have from 5 to 30 years of aging. Among the biggest houses producing bottles of Côte-Rotie, we can mention Etienne Guigal, Chapoutier House, Domaine Paul Jaboulet, Domaine Georges Vernay, Delas ...
